Americana DeVenco Shutter Measuring and Installation Information
NEVER deduct for inside clearances and ALWAYS give exact dimensions according to directions and we will deduct for all allowances.
Shutters are most frequently installed on the inside or within the casement. Diagram A depicts a typical double hung window. Note the parts of the window. The window stop moulding is where the shutter should install. Measure width and height inside the window stop. When measuring, always measure the width at the top and the bottom of the window. (Most windows bow out at the center.)
Americana DeVenco manufactures a hanging stop (see Diagram B) in several different styles which aids in the installation of the shutter. The hanging stop has two primary purposes: to allow adjustment of the shutter both horizontally and vertically in order to perfectly align the panels and to space the shutter panel the necessary amount from the window sash to allow perfect louver clearance with the window.
Measure each window accurately—preferably using a steel tape rather than a carpenter’s rule or yardstick. Measure as accurately as possible and fill out the measure form as completely as possible. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call for assistance. We can walk you through each step of measuring. For difficult or unusual windows, it can be helpful to sketch or provide photos of them and sent it to us. We will contact you with our suggestions for installation. We reduce 1/8” on the width and 1/8” at the top and 1/8” at the bottom for fit.

Frame Installation
In some cases, an outside installation may be preferable. Whether due to architectural constraints of a particular window jamb or for aesthetic preferences, the face mount may be a viable option. In these situations, a shutter frame is mounted to the face (on top of) the window casing. A three-sided frame installs on the face of the casing and abuts the window stool at bottom.
Frames come pre-mitered for quick assembly and installation. The mounting surface of the frame is 1 inch. The point of installation on the casing should allow for this dimension.
Face Mount Frame
Measure the exact width of the window at the top and bottom and the exact height from the top of the casing to the window stool. The outside dimension of the frame will be exactly the size you give. No allowance is taken relative to this size.
Surround Frame
Measure the exact width of the window at the top and bottom and the exact height from the top of the casing to the window stool. The outside dimension of the frame will be exactly the size you give. No allowance is taken relative to this size.
T-Posts
The T-Post is used where windows are mulled together closely. It allows you to have a shutters placed across a wide bank of windows and maintain the window width in the shutters to make them look like they naturally fit.
