The Sliding ByPass Shutter that you buy today will be enjoyed for years to come. Whether you have a new home, are renovating, or desire a timeless way to provide privacy in a useful way, our shutters are tailored to your requirements.

• Solid wood components. There are no finger-jointed or “glued up parts.” All components are solid wood and custom milled to exacting specifications in our shop. There are no ready-made parts, imported parts or stock fabricated parts…and never faux wood.
• Mortise and dowel construction. Americana DeVenco shutters are not screwed together, stapled, or pinned together. We use old-fashioned cabinetmaker joinery. This assures the shutter will never fall out of square at the joints under its own weight.
• Nylon rotation pins. Louver operation is smooth and effortless, even if it is refinished numerous times.
• Proportional design.
  • Plantation/Caribbean 1″ by 2″ stiles assure aesthetically pleasing design as well as structural integrity.
  • 2-1/2″ louvers spaced at 2″ on center (Plantation) or 3-1/2″ louvers spaced at 3″ on center (Caribbean) provide excellent closure and actual room darkening in daylight.
  • Lockrails are customary at no extra charge based upon the height of the shutter and provide structural support and absolute stability within a panel while allowing upper louvers to function separately from lower louvers.

All wood is milled by us in our shop. There are no prefab or stock-sized parts. All work is done in our shop by skilled craftsmen to the highest standards in the industry today.

Following our state-of-the-art CAD drawings that are reviewed and approved by the customer for accuracy, the components for each shutter are cut by hand, piece by piece, the old-fashioned way. The shutters are then assembled by hand using old-world cabinetmaker construction techniques.

After assembly, each shutter is sanded and buffed by hand and prepared for finishing. All shutters are ready to receive a finish with either being provided raw or primed. Hardware is carefully set on each shutter and holes are drilled for installation. Your shutters are then packed like Waterford crystal for shipping.

Sliding ByPass Shutters provide privacy when needed by closing the louvers or allow you to see through the open louvers and let light into the room. If you have enough space, you can roll the shutter panels past the sliding glass door opening so that they provide you with an unhindered view. They are classic and stylish and enhance the look of a room with the warmth offered by a wood product.

Advantages

Some advantages to Sliding ByPass Shutters include the fact that they will not flap in the wind or get caught in the door like curtains. They block light when needed, but can also allow you to enjoy your view, bringing the outdoors to you when the louvers are opened. They do not swing and sway like vertical blinds and will never need dry cleaning. Rolling shutters are permanent and almost maintenance free. They can be painted or stained to match existing trim or they can be colored (with paint or stain) as an accent piece.

Sliding ByPass Track

Sliding ByPass Shutters are suspended overhead on an easy-glide aluminum track that is installed on the header. Brackets installed on the wall above the sliding glass doors are fastened to the header. The carriers on the shutter that roll on the track are heavy duty nylon wheels that do not jam or skip, but allow perfectly smooth function of the shutters. With adequate wall space, the shutters can roll off to either side of the door to allow an unhindered view or access to the sliding doors. If you are tight on space, they can cover an inactive door. The shutters do not bi-fold like closet doors, but rather roll on the track parallel to the wall. This allows the sliding bypass shutters to take very little space in front of the doors.

When quoting, you will be provided with a sketch of how the shutters will operate on the tracks. If you are concerned with space, we are happy to review your situation and offer suggestions on our products. Once you place an order, an approval drawing will be provided at scale so that you can review the final look of the product and accept it prior to fabrication.

Customization

We offer many options for the header beyond the standard beaded fascia. You can request a sculptured moulding or a decorative panel moulding to add more visual appeal to match your space. Another option is to use barn door hardware, which we have available in either aluminum or black. The barn door hardware includes two tracks that—similar to our standard hardware—allow the shutter panels to bypass each other allowing independent movement.
